“Pope Francis challenges us to leave the security of the shore to encounter others, especially those on the economic, social and geographic peripheries,” says Deacon Matt Dulka, associate director of the Church Engagement Division of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. Increasingly, Deacon Dulka says, U.S. parish leaders and other committed Christians are accepting the pope’s challenge and encountering their brothers and sisters—overseas and closer to home—by participating in the Maryknoll Society’s mission immersion trips.
The following three stories show how these experiences are changing lives:
- Journey of Life and Death in Appalachia
- Tutoring Indigenous Bolivian Children
- Sacred Moments in El Salvador
